A diagnostic assessment is a thorough, one-to-one evaluation carried out by a qualified specialist to determine whether an individual meets the criteria for a diagnosis of dyslexia or another specific learning difficulty. It includes a review of developmental and educational history, alongside a series of cognitive and literacy-based tasks designed to explore how the individual processes information. The outcome is a comprehensive written report outlining the learner’s unique profile of strengths and challenges. This can be used to inform teaching strategies, classroom support, and applications for formal accommodations such as Exam Access Arrangements.
This type of assessment focuses specifically on identifying barriers to reading, spelling, and writing. It is particularly useful for learners who are struggling with literacy but do not necessarily require or meet the threshold for a full dyslexia diagnosis. The assessment highlights specific skill gaps and pinpoints where intervention should be focused, whether that’s decoding, comprehension, spelling strategies, or written expression. The report includes practical and tailored recommendations to support progress, both at home and in school.
We offer bespoke CPD training sessions for teachers, teaching assistants, and school leaders designed to deepen understanding of dyslexia and broader literacy difficulties. These sessions are grounded in current research and best practice and can be tailored to suit the needs of individual settings. Topics may include:
-
Identifying early signs of dyslexia
-
Delivering high-quality classroom support
-
Legal Responsibilities in the Context of the SEND Code of Practise (2014)
-
Using multi-sensory strategies
-
Creating inclusive learning environments
